The Eagle Pass Eagles took care of business on Saturday night, topping Martin, 35-7, in Eagle Pass to stay in contention for a District 29-5A title.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in district. Martin fell to 1-5, 1-4.
The game was mundane and sloppy in the first half, as Eagle Pass did nothing spectacular but did what was necessary to pull out the win.
Eagle Pass held Martin to 132 total yards. The Tigers amassed 97 rushing yards on 44 attempts. They compiled 35 passing yards.
Alex Alvarado scored Martin’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard scamper. Mario Trevino led the team in rushing with 22 yards on nine carries. Fernie Medina had 18 on seven and Fermin Gutierrez added 17 on 11.
Edgar Benavides had both of Martin’s pass receptions for 35 yards.
Eagle Pass star quarterback Tony Galvan carried the ball 14 times for 102 yards. He accounted for two touchdowns, one passing and one rushing.
Rolando Salinas scored two touchdowns for Eagle Pass and caught four passes for 164 yards, including a 90-yard TD reception.
Overall, the Eagles had 362 total yards, 198 rushing and 164 passing.
